Benefits

Covers you when you are unable to work due to illness or injury

Income One pays up to your chosen level of cover if you are unable to work due to illness or injury.

Offers long-term cover

You can keep your Income One policy right through to age 68.

Claim

You can make any number of claims under Income One, this will not affect your premium.

Own occupation cover

When assessing any claim, we only look at what you do under your own occupation.

You can choose from a wide range of waiting periods

So your income replacement starts when you need it to.

Simple pricing structure – Age costed premiums

You pay “as you go” according to your age – making premiums cheaper when you start your policy.

Indexation Option

This option means your cover is automatically adjusted every year in line with the Retail Price Index (RPI) and will result in an increased premium.

Financial Underwriting at application - option

You can choose to provide evidence of your income with your application which “fixes” either all or a proportion of your benefit amount should you need to claim.

Limitations

Pre-existing conditions

If the personal or medical information that you provide with your application highlights a medical condition we may offer you a policy on what is called 'special terms'.

Claim waiting period

No payments will be made under this policy unless the illness or injury lasts longer than your waiting period. Payments are made fortnightly in arrears.

Ages 16-60

You can only take out a policy between your 16th and 60th birthday.

Five year minimum period

Your Income One policy must start at least 5 years before your chosen finishing date.

Cover

You can only have cover of up to £100,000 per year.

Residency

You must have been resident in the UK for the last 3 years.

Level of cover

You need to ensure that your income is high enough to support the level of cover you choose.

Check your occupation

Income One is targeted solely at "low risk", mainly clerical and office based occupations. There are many occupations that are not covered.

What am I not covered for?
There are no standard exclusions in Income One.
However, to be clear, income protection generally is not designed to cover you for the following:

Unemployment

You cannot claim just because you become unemployed. This plan does not cover for unemployment or redundancy.

Pregnancy

Income One will not pay benefit for any claim which is made solely as a result of the normal effects of pregnancy or childbirth.

Cosmetic Surgery or Sterilisation

Income One does not provide you with cover if you need to have any time off work as a result of any cosmetic surgery or a sterilisation that you choose to have.

Claiming abroad

Income One covers you for illness and injuries that happen anywhere around the world. However, for us to be able to pay your income replacement benefit, you must be either resident and in the UK, any country in the EU or a selected list of other countries at the time.
